The WAECA Logo
The WAECA Logo
The logo was designed by Eric Ungil. It depicts a glowing flame from the branch of a gum tree. (Gum trees are a sign of change in the valley) In the background is a little potrait of the Warakamb Valley. Flowing through the middle is the Warakamb River. On the sides of the river are 5 lines on each side. They represent the tribes in the valley and the ten commandments they must uphold to await the second comming of Christ.
The WAECA constitution The WAECA constitution was compiled by the founders of WAECA. They sat through long hours of the night and produced what is now the WAECA constitution. It details the roles and function of the association and the guidelines for the running of it. As the constitution is confidential, it is not available on the site for public viewing. It is available on CD as well as printed copies. However if there are parts which readers want details of, we can make them available. For memebers who want hard copies can contact the president - Mr. Simon William. A detailed report will be given during the 2008 WAECA convention. Upcoming Meetings Executive Decisions Executive decisions are made in emergency situations or when confidential matters are discussed. Also, executive decisions will be made if there is no quorum and executive members are unable to meet urgently for any matter.
Laymen Payment. This is a very important project of the elites. We struggled last year. We have given up this year. The laymen work hard to bring the good news to the people, and we need some money to give them to buy soap and cooking oil. We need help in this area. We pray that the Lord will one day enable us to pay our laymen. Fund Raising
Church Planting We owe a lot to our clergyman. They have managed to plant a few churches. here is a list of them. Mondah - Church building to be opened this year during the WAECA convention. Few people to be baptised there. They are preparing. Purimipa - Only built last year (2007). Few people also to be baptised. Church building will also be opened during the 2008 WAECA convention. Needs a laymen. Pelpowe - Few interested people. No church building yet. Winja - Church building under construction. Many will possibly be baptised during this convention. Laymen is sakius. Pia - semi permanent building. Still under construction. Kendor - Lot of church members. Needs church building and laymen. Wariba Ipsem and Sape - Need church buildings and laymen. The potential is there for the church to grow and spread, but we need laymen, we need money to build churches and also train thhe laymen. List of Pastors Pr. John Kundapen - DD Laigam. Pr. Data base of WAECA Elites Project Proposals 1. Health centre A great need and necessity. We pray one day will happen. Plans have been written up. Land available. Just needs funding. 2. Primary school Currently the one at Okula not doing very well. Might come a time when the Adventist Church will be requested to run it. A high will be needed for kids in the valley as well. Its is a great need but since no funding, is just wishful thinking. 3.Church Buildings Ongoing from self fund raising. Currently, Walem teh, Annal and Pia are semi permanent buildings. Still need fund raising to build some more. 4. WAECA office and base Venue and building structure yet to formailized. Perhaps during the 2008 WAECA convention. 5. Water Supply Probably not a very big issue at this stage to villages. But the school and aid posts will need it. 6. Laymen training A very good proposal. But we need money to support our clergymen to run it. 7. HIV/AIDS Centre A HIV/AIDS center needs to be built. The valley is not immune to the deadly virus spreading like wild fire in PNG. Few people have already died. We need a place for counselling, presenting seminars, show videos and for people to come around and make people aware. Land is already available. Need money for building, a generator, poster, DVDs/ movies and player. We possibly need to ask some NGO groups or HIV/AIDs council for funding.
Health Issues in the Valley - Childhood mortality, maternal Mortality, HIV AIDs HIV/AIDS - The killer desease is already in the valley. So far, probably only a couple of deaths have occured. The HIV rate in PNG is 1.8%. We must be watchful. More awareness campaigns need to be done. Malaria/ typhoid - A deadly combination. Killing lot of people in the valley. Global warming has caused the migration of the anopheles mosquito into the valley with the deadly parasite. Teaching hygiene is the way to go. Tribal Fight related Deaths - Still lot of deaths directly and innocent ones indirectly. My heart aches when I see the destruction from tribal fights. May the good Lord put an end to this human tragedy.
Topics for discussion during the convention Seminar - HIV AIDS Law and Order Other health news World events Other topics of interest by elites
Environment and Climate Change Since the 1997/1998 El Nino effect, most of the big trees in the tropical rainforests have been drying up. The forests are starting to become replaced with shrubs and other soft wood. In some areas, it is just grass and pit pit and weeds. Eric Ungil planted 100 pine trees as an experiment in 2006 to see if they will grow. To our suprise, they have done well. Twenty gum trees were also planted and they have done well. These needs to be expanded to a larger level. We need to plan to have thousands of trees planted in the now vast grasslands. Could one come with a proposal? Climate change is a big issue and trees need to be planted. the village peopel are good at planting trees and they will do a good job. The best species would be pine and gum trees.
Guest Speaker selection
Pr. J.Taiipu, Guest speaker 2006 WAECA convention.
Current issues in Warakamb Warakamb Councillor elections. As we have read in the papers, elections in Enga, SHP and WHP have been delayed to June. Hope fully Warakamb can elect some good councilors to represent them. State of the Mendi to Kandep Highway Due to a big landslide down at Popae ipa, the highway is closed. It has been since January. Until the landslip is cleared, the highway closed indefinitely. Update - News reaching us is that from 6th June, the road is now open. Vehicles are passing through. Update on tribal fights - Currently, no tribal fights are brewing in the valley. But WAECA elites and clergyman must keep an eye and continue to discourage tribal fighting. Any deaths -
